Zotefoams are justifiably proud of the fact that PLASTAZOTE is the most referred thermoplastic in the whole of the medical lexis, here at Kewells we are proud to supply some of Europe’s leading quoted healthcare companies with their bespoke designed foam applications.
Many of the foams specified by our customers in this area require the foams in skin contact and also to be MRI, CT and X-Ray lucent so they can be deployed in splint and support applications we manufacture.
We often specify AZOTE foams for prosthetic applications due to their very low mass, additionally their range of available densities means that they have a wide range of podiatric applications, particularly; Plantar Fasciitis,Pes Planus and Pes Cavus.
PLASTAZOTE and other foams are used in “moulding to the body” applications which has uses such as manufacture of joint supports, spinal supports and immobilising orthoses. The unusual hydrophobic and flexible nature of our foams also makes them ideal for manufacturing hydrotherapy equipment. There are a wide variety of other medical foam solutions and of course we are always interested to deliver new healthcare uses for our foams!
HEALTHCARE, REHABILITATION AND COMFORT PRODUCTS
PLASTAZOTE is used for many medical and healthcare applications, and has become the most often-cited thermoplastic material in medical literature - a fact about which Zotefoams plc is justifiably proud.
Applications involving direct skin contact are frequent. The special properties of these foams are ideal for maximum comfort, hygiene and safety.
PLASTAZOTE and EVAZOTE are hypoallergenic, latex-free and non-toxic, reducing the onset of skin irritation. They are also X-Ray, CT and MRI-lucent - therefore perfect for use in the manufacture of splints, other supports and MRI vests. EVAZOTE is preferred where resilience and a softer feel is required.
AZOTE foams lend themselves perfectly to prosthetics, where light weight, durability and non-irritant properties are paramount. The foams can be cut to shape or moulded with ease, providing both precision and flexibility. PLASTAZOTE has an unrivalled reputation as covering for upper and lower limb prostheses.
AZOTE foam has a range of densities, allowing it to provide differentiated support for a range of painful foot ailments:
o Pes Planus - flat feet
o Plantar Fasciitis - fallen arches
o Pes Cavus - high arches
o Hallux Valgus - bunions
Placing the foot on a piece of preheated PLASTAZOTE and pressing down hard gives an accurate impression of the plantar surface of the foot for diagnostic purposes. Many types of orthopaedic footwear make good use of the lightweight pliant nature and shock-absorbency of AZOTE foam.
Orthoses: braces, splints, collars, immobilisers & support pads
Bespoke joint supports can be manufactured using PLASTAZOTE foam and the 'moulding to body' technique developed with this material. High-density grades of PLASTAZOTE are light-weight but rigid - perfect for many immobilising applications including cervical collars, spinal supports and limb splints.
Miscellaneous: utensils, buoyancy aids, pads, seats, cushions
Healthcare and medical uses of AZOTE foams extend beyond specific bespoke applications. They can be used extensively for hydrotherapy and physiotherapy equipment, for protection helmets, exercise mats, implement handles, wheelchair ramps and comfort lining, just to name a few examples
