Colin Kewell – The Founder of Kewell Converters
Colin Kewell (Chairman) very sadly passed away on Tuesday 19th February 2019. He was a truly great and inspirational man, and gave Kewell Converters Ltd the foundations and guidance to make it evolve into the business we see today. This a tough time for the family, but we know he would take peace and pride knowing that KCL will continue to grow and prosper even now he has gone.
Colin was the founder of Kewell Converters and dedicated his life to the Foam Plastics industry with huge technical knowledge and enthusiasm for manufacturing with great pride and principles. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, having suffered with an aggressive brain tumour (Glioblastoma). Although we miss him greatly, his heart and soul was, and will always be, at the very core of our business and everything we do and we take some comfort from that. Colin was originally an apprentice tool designer, a true engineer at heart, who pioneered the engineering approach upon which the business was founded. His first machine, built within his garage in the early 1970s, is still housed in our factory in Edenbridge, Kent. He created KCL to operate as a close knit, supportive team, a real family, and it has continued to have this culture as we have grown. His insistence to high attention to detail and quality within the manufacturing process is evident in all our practices today. We are proud of his heritage and will honour it as the business grows.
The family ask that no flowers be sent. However, if you felt inclined to, they would like to encourage donations in Colin’s name to either St Catherine’s Hospice Crawley or Marie Curie. Both organisations worked tirelessly to care for Colin in his final months and weeks.
