M&MT: A cut above the rest
Kewell Converters position as one of the UK’s leading companies in the foam marketplace isn’t down to chance. Since 1971, the company has continued to explore the latest technologies and manufacturing processes to deliver for its customers. “This year we decided to make a significant six figure investment in a stateof-the-art OFS-VS CNC Vertical Contour Cutting Machine. The all-purpose machine is a fast and compact vertical CNC foam saw for processing blocks or stacks of sheets of foam or non-woven products,” says Commercial Director, Marcos Kewell. At first glance, it is legendary German engineering of a stationary cutting unit with an integrated knife guiding and a belt system coupled by a PLC control. However, that’s only half the story. Marcos Kewell explains: “Our customers are already benefiting from faster more accurate production of foam fillers across the range from roofing and cladding to specialised 2D/3D packaging; automotive trims and panels to high specification aviation and manufacturing applications.” He continues: “This high performance machine has a lot of great features that unlock speed, accuracy and repeatability for our customers, with cutting speeds of 80 m/min that would be a struggle to match.” It is has the capability of slicing through parts a metre thick; has the versatility to meet the trickiest of angles, and provides the perfect solution for fast throughput and high speed batch production. Marcos Kewell states: “Investing in the latest technologies and manufacturing processes, from the 33,000 ft2 production and design facility to the latest ISO 9001: 2015 accreditation has been central to our success since 1971. “Our investment in the new cutting machine is a pivotal part of that, embracing the latest advanced technology to deliver a faster, more accurate service to our customers. “The accuracy, speed and precision of cut has enabled us to significantly broaden and enhance our range of products and parts for both existing and new customers with the potential to reduce lead times for customers.
